| The
Robert Jeffrey Band is a band of brothers, plus a father, a wife, and a
long-time friend. The Carothers brothers--Jack, Bob and
Chris--have been playing music together since they were kids growing up
in Southern Ohio in the mid sixties. Jack and Bob started their first band in 1963 with Jack on the keys and Bob on the guitar. The youngest brother Chris became the group’s drummer a couple of years later at the age of 10. At the same time, B.J. Carothers, their father and one of the first electric bass players in the country, decided to leave his own band, The Countdowns, to play bass with his sons. That early band was called Him and His Sons. The band is named after Robert Jeffrey Carothers (“Bob”), the lead singer, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter. In the early days the band had several different names including The Chris Michael Band that it went by for several years. Musicians came and went, but the three brothers were always the foundation of the band. In 1978, Deborah Carothers (fka Deborah Bovit) was added to the nucleus of the band as a vocalist. Two years later she and Bob married. In 1980, percussionist Mark Huff joined the band to complete the current mix of members. The band played on literally hundreds of stages from coast to coast and earned a reputation for excellent musicianship and vocals. Over the years they recorded a trunk-full of original songs and shared the stage with many national acts. The Carothers recorded their current CD, The Robert Jeffrey Band, as a compilation of original songs that blend the rock, country, and blues influences that helped define their unique vocals and musical style. They make music together better today than ever before. In many ways “The Robert Jeffrey Band” has been forty years in the making, and is the culmination of several lifetimes of musical experiences.
